What's On the Horizon for Abby This Summer

Chicken strutting across a lawn

Hi, my name is Abby Tomlin and I am working as a Loan Officer Intern at the Statesville Branch for the summer.

I am a rising senior at Catawba College where I am double majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems.

I was born and raised in the Cool Spring area, where my family owns a farm. We harvest around 350 acres of hay, raise beef cattle, own quarter horses, and also have six broiler houses that are owned and operated by my Uncle.

Throughout high school, I was an avid member of the FFA and represented North Iredell as Reporter my Junior year, and Secretary my Senior year. I was also a part of many different clubs within the FFA and recently earned my American Degree.

So far in my internship, I have gotten to see many different sides of the loan process from the loan officer point of view and first meeting with clients, the loan processor’s work and all that they do to ensure this will be a successful loan, all the way up to someone coming in to make their payment. I have also gotten to take part in closings, as well as farm visits and home construction site visits in order to see the progress made and how we have helped the customer. It is a huge opportunity and great feeling to allow a customer the ability to expand their farm or build a home on their land. I thoroughly enjoy hearing our customer’s story and seeing the process all the way through.

Recently, I took part in the Farm Tour, hosted by Carolina Farm Credit, for the Chamber of Commerce in Statesville and anyone interested in going from farm-to-farm to learn more about the different agriculture industries. We visited a dairy farm, a nursery, a produce operation, a vineyard, as well as, a grain farm. I enjoyed learning more about the various amenities our county has to offer and how important agriculture is in our community.

I have met many new faces while working here and have gotten to attend a Rotary Meeting, as a guest, with my Loan Officer Mentor. These opportunities have already opened many new doors for my future and I am very excited to see where this internship leads me. The laid-back atmosphere and ecstatic customer service, makes working for Carolina Farm Credit so much fun and very enjoyable. I am looking forward to what the next five weeks have to hold!
