A Summer to Remember at Farm Credit

Hello everyone, I am Honovi Locklear and I am working as a lending intern in the Ellerbe branch this summer. I am from a little community in Robeson County called Propsect. I have a strong background in agriculture as I grew up on a 2,800 acre row crop farm which consists mainly of corn and soybeans. This is where my love for agriculture first started and I have been hooked ever since. I am a rising junior at North Carolina State University, majoring in Agricultural business management with a minor in economics.

I have been in Ellerbe for a little over a week and I could not have asked for a better start. Once I walked through the doors I immediately felt like I was part of the Carolina Farm Credit family. So far during this experience I have been working with my mentor, Mr. Jake Vuncannon as he has shown me how to operate various software in order to start and complete a new loan. While doing this I was able to see how the interest rates are calculated and was able to learn a great deal about credit scores. While learning how to start a new loan I also had the privilege of going out on several farm visits and meeting some great farmers and members of the community. Through my mentor and other employees in the office I have been learning a great deal about how the branch operates and how Carolina Farm Credit in a whole operates. I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by such great people that have taken time to help a young intern understand the intricate world of Farm Credit.

I am very grateful for this opportunity to intern with Carolina Farm Credit this summer and very excited to be here! I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of this summer holds in store for me and learning more about Carolina Farm Credit and the awesome individuals that work here!
