No Farms, No Food
Having spent the summer working as a loan officer intern in the Taylorsville and Statesville branches, I can confidently say that I leave Farm Credit with more knowledge and understanding than I could have previously imagined. Mindy Herman, Lee Renegar and all of the other staff from my offices have been there to help, answer questions, and guide me in the right direction throughout the entirety of my summer. My dream jobs had always encompassed some sort of ability to be surrounded by agriculture or some sort of public service. At Farm Credit I was able to experience both of those aspects. I was able to talk to customers about their operations whether that be current or prospective, all the while supplying them with the tools they needed to grow their farms or families.
Thanks to Hannah, I was able to experience more than just the Loan Officer position. I was able to do a ride along with an appraiser which I really enjoyed as well. I was able to understand all of the different aspects that go into someone’s loan. I had become familiar with the entirety of the loan process but not so much the appraisal or credit analysis and the opportunity to see that made me grateful.
My favorite part about this summer was the farm visits. Aside from friends or family, I rarely have the opportunity to talk with someone regarding their specific farm. I met great customers who were ecstatic to run me around their farm and that really showed me the bond a customer feels with his/her loan officer. I didn’t know what to expect coming into this position as I don’t personally have any loans with Farm Credit yet. I was truly surprised and happy that rather than a typical bank experience, Farm Credit offers a more relaxed and friendly environment.
As this summer comes to an end I realize all that I’ve learned and can’t thank everyone around me enough. Mindy, Lee, Colin, Lauren, Kayleigh, Jalen, Hannah, and everyone at Farm Credit has had a lasting impression on me that I will carry with me following my graduation from NC State.
