Following My Passion: Helping Farmers Be Successful

Hello everyone, I am Kate Carter and I’m working as both a loan officer intern and a credit analyst intern this summer. I am primarily working at the Albemarle branch, but I’ll also be at the Statesville Administrative Office part time.

I am from a small town called China Grove in Rowan County. I grew up on a farm that is leased to my cousins’ for their dairy, so I have been around agriculture all my life. After learning more about agriculture through FFA and working on the farm, I realized helping farmers be successful is truly a passion for me. I am now a rising junior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Agriculture Ecosystems with a minor in Agriculture Economics.

I have been in Statesville and Albemarle for about a week now and am really enjoying my work. I have met so many amazing people and have started working on some exciting projects that will help our farmers and community members. One of my mentors, Mr. Chase Blankenship, has shown me some of the ins and outs of what it’s like to be a credit analyst. Jody Smith, the Regional Lending Manager for my area, has also shown me some of the processes, software, and information that go into making a loan. In my short time here, I have already learned so much about Carolina Farm Credit’s family culture and operations. Everyone I’ve gotten to meet with here has taught me something new about Carolina Farm Credit and I am excited to continue learning more!

I am very thankful to have been given the opportunity to work for Carolina Farm Credit this summer. This company is truly faith and family oriented, which is a huge part of what made me want to intern here initially. I absolutely love the work I’m getting to do and I’m excited to be doing something that helps people and that I’m passionate about. I continue to look forward to all I’ll learn and everyone I’ll meet this summer!
