My name is Seth Harrill and I am a Loan Officer Intern at the Shelby and Spindale Branches. I am currently a senior at Appalachian State University majoring in Finance.
I plan to graduate in December of 2019 and pursue a career in Finance & Banking. I live on a farm in rural Shelby, North Carolina where we farm close to 800 acres of grain (corn, wheat, soybeans). We also have beef cattle that are 100% grass fed. Carolina Farm Credit has contributed to my family’s farm for as long as I can remember and I will forever be grateful for that. By growing up in the agriculture industry I wanted to experience a job where I could remain in the agriculture field but also express my love for finance.
So far at Carolina Farm Credit, my mentor Miles Hamrick has taught me a lot about what it takes to be a high performing loan officer. We also had the chance to visit Mountain Brook Vineyards in Tryon, NC and learn about their operation.
This is my third week at Carolina Farm Credit and I just returned from the Farm Credit Basics for Interns in Columbia, SC. This was an awesome experience as I got to build upon my social network by meeting interns from associations in several other states. While we were there, Ronnie Hucks, Vice President of Relationships Lending, went over the Farm Credit system and how it operates. It was a great way to learn more about the organization! The other interns and I were also able to tour the AgFirst Farm Credit Bank, which seemed to be a great work environment. Fun fact, the AgFirst Farm Credit Bank is also bomb proof as it was designed by a retired army general. Overall, I am really enjoying the opportunities provided by Carolina Farm Credit and I cannot wait to see what the remaining seven weeks have in store!
