Agriculture: You Can’t Live Without It!

Agriculture: You Can’t Live Without It!

My current journey with Carolina Farm Credit has been amazing. The people here are friendly, lively, and genuine. Interning for CFC has been a very interesting experience. Coming into the role as an intern, I did not know what to expect. I became worried at times because I had no agricultural background. My mentor and others who are a part of the Farm Credit family, have helped me understand what my role here is. I kept hearing this phrase, “Life on a farm is a school of patience; you can’t hurry the crops or make an ox in two days”. From that phrase I understood that, in order to improve, I must learn and work hard over time to get where I want to be.

I gained tons of knowledge, opening my eyes on how impactful this organization really is. My mentor has helped polish my soft skills, and also improve my technical skills. I was able to conduct research for the internship group project. Interning with CFC, I was able to assist the Credit department with projects as assigned including analyzing poultry expense trend data. Learning how to underwrite a loan request through reading and analyzing financial information was one of the most interesting parts of my role. Fortunately, I was able to participate in farm visits in order to gain a better understanding of the industries Farm Credit serves. Shadowing association staff throughout the loan-making process has given the interns and I better understanding of what Farm Credit does.

My favorite moments here at Carolina Farm Credit have always been when the other interns and I meet at company locations. Also, my mentor is a great role model and he is someone that the interns and I can relate to. Farm visits or going out to lunch have been fun and informative each time. Learning from the other interns has been amazing. They have experience or information pertaining to the agriculture industry, so I was able to gain more knowledge and understand farming from a different perspective. I want to thank the Carolina Farm Credit Family (Colin, Hannah, Lee, Steve, Wanda, Addie, the Marketing Department, Vance, Sarah, and Chayana) and the interns; Lauren, Kayleigh, and Will for allowing me to be a part of something so special. My time here at Carolina Farm Credit has been amazing and I am excited for possible opportunities with Carolina Farm Credit in the future!
