April showers bring May flowers. That old saying has held true for 2017. The rain we have experienced has been a blessing in many areas of our territory. It’s always exciting to see the landscape turn green this time of year. It means that things are growing. Helping you grow your operation is key to our future.
We recently held our 17th annual Ag Leadership Institute. Twenty participants from across our 54-county region attended an intense three-day institute designed to help meet the challenges of agriculture, while maintaining a balance between business and family. In addition, we completed our 8th session of AgBiz Planner with five participants. This program is a mix of 10 online college-level modules and two face-to-face meetings that teaches business planning. The participants are paired with a Carolina Farm Credit loan officer as a mentor. They finish the program with a complete business plan. Also, we finished our first AgBiz Basics program with three participants. This year’s program was offered specifically to veterans and we were thrilled to partner with them for this shortened version of AgBiz Planner. These programs are just a few ways that Carolina Farm Credit is working to help farming operations grow. We will open up enrollment for the next AgBiz Planner in late June. I hope you had a chance to enjoy one of our many Customer Appreciation Events during the month of April. We were thrilled to return $14.8 million in cash dividends to our members as part of our patronage program. This cash is invested back into the farming operations and local communities we serve. This is a great benefit from operating as a cooperative. Thank you for allowing us to be your lender. We are blessed to work alongside you and help you achieve success.
