There’s the old saying “Time flies when you’re having fun” and in my past five weeks of working here I am officially a believer in that saying.
Since my last blog post, I have had even more experiences through this amazing company. A few big things I have done since my last blog post have included the Intern and New Hire Training in Columbia, SC and FSA Guarantee Inspections. Having the opportunity to experience these things and be a first hand witness to the loan process has been a lot of fun!
If there was one thing that I had to take away from the training in Columbia, it would be that no matter where you go in Farm Credit, it always feels like home. I was so shocked to see the closeness between interns and employees while I was in South Carolina. When I first began interning here I believed that sort of closeness was only within Carolina Farm Credit, but I was taken aback by how welcoming everyone was once we got there. It made the training that much better and allowed for a lot of great discussions and learning opportunities to happen. Also, a huge thank you to Ronnie Hucks, Vice President Relationship Lending, for teaching us more about Farm Credit and giving us a tour of the bank!
Last week, I had the opportunity to do inspections for FSA guarantees with Loan Officer, Jeremy Lee, from the Conover Branch. It was a long day of traveling from the southern part of Lincoln County up into Lenoir, NC (and everywhere in-between). Now one would typically be lead to believe that a day in the car visiting various farms would be boring, right? Well you’re probably wrong! I had an incredible time seeing the diversity in agriculture in that part of our beautiful state. Having a loan officer who had relationships with most of the farms we visited only made the experience that much better. He was really great at explaining everything about the individual customer and explaining the FSA Guarantee process.
It’s amazing that I have been here for a month now and I still have so much to look forward to. It’s hard to believe that my fellow interns and I only have a little over a month left. If there’s one thing I could ask for, it is that time could slow down. I’m truly privileged to work with my fellow interns on our project and to be hosted by an awesome office.
